freegal bannerIntroducing Freegal, a new downloadable music service from the library.

All you need is a Burlington Public Library card and your PIN, to access the Sony Music Entertainment catalogue. You don't need to download software to use it and you won't have any digital rights management (DRM) issues to deal with.

Using Freegal is easy!

  • Log-in to Freegal using your BPL card and PIN (but not your catalogue username).

  • Choose a song from the database, and click on Download.

  • Select Save in the window that pops up on your screen. This saves the file onto your computer (just like when you download an attachment from an email).

  • If using a library computer to download, you must save it onto a USB key, so you don't lose it.

A few things you need to know

  • Limit of 3 downloads/week per library card

  • There is a Freegal app for Apple and Android devices.

  • Downloaded music on a personal computer can be transferred using a connection wire from a PC to a mobile device or MP3 player.

  • Tablets without an app can log-in and use the Freegal website easily—simply download directly onto your tablet.
  • This is not an all-inclusive database, some songs and artists will not be available.

  • To find Freegal on the library website: go to Resources -> Articles & Research -> Society & Culture -> Freegal

Handy tip

To find out who is on Freegal, look at albums or artists that have recorded with Sony. For example, Lady Gaga doesn’t record with Sony, but she was on the MuchDance 2012 album that they produced, so her song from that album is available on Freegal.
